JEWELRY EDUCATION > GLOSSARY > Citrine
The name citrine comes from the French "citron," meaning lemon. This speaks to the rich yellow hues of the stone. Classic citrine is typically a light yellow similar to its namesake, but citrine also is found in darker tones ranging from orange to brown. The birthstone for November, many citrines begin as amethysts that are then heat treated to a brownish yellow or yellow color.
