Cut

The cut, or make, of a diamond is the single most important factor in determining its beauty and ultimate value, and it is the only part left to the artisan. Two diamonds of equal carat weight, color and clarity may look completely different because of their cut.

A diamond's cut is based upon the precise combination of angles and proportions that maximize the brilliance (white light), fire (rainbow colors), and scintillation (sparkle) inside a diamond. The three main factors for the grading of a diamond's cut are proportion, polish and symmetry.
