Peridot, (perry-doe), also known as chrysolite, is a variety of the mineral olivine. It is a highly romantic stone with a long, dramatic history. It is actually born in fire! How dramatic is that? Small crystals of Peridot are often found in the rocks created by volcanoes, and they have even been found in meteors. It is favored by those who appreciate subtle, soothing shades of green. Though peridot crystals of substantial size and fine quality are somewhat rare, the finished gems are reasonably priced and often more affordable than gemstones of comparable color.
