Company History
In 1935, Rose Rosenblatt and Michael C.
Fina brought together their lives, money, and dreams of owning their own
business, and started the Michael C. Fina Company. Their original store
was located on the fourth floor of 1 West 47th Street in Manhattan, and
was an immediate success. Rose and Mike founded the company with the belief
that their customers deserve the best quality merchandise, at the lowest
possible price, and with the best customer service. Michael C. Fina Company
began catering to the tastes of discriminating New Yorkers, and soon came
to sell much more than just silverware.
In 1942, Rose and Mike were married and
went on to run their business for several decades, while raising a family,
and being active in their community. They opened a second store at 10
Maiden Lane in the early 1950's, which operated for 15 years before being
closed after a fire. These years on Maiden Lane were the only time in
the company's history that a second store was operated.
In 1955, the showroom was moved from the
fourth floor to the second floor of 1 West 47th Street. The second floor
housed a larger showroom, a jewelry department, and a shipping department.
During their years in this store, the phrase "Upstairs at Michael C. Fina"
was coined, and remained a New York headline for many years.
In 1986, Michael C. Fina moved yet again,
to a street-front showroom in the same building. While always open to
the public, for the first time ever, Michael C. Fina had a street front
entrance. This store, built on 3 levels, housed all of the company's retail
sales operations for the next 12 years.
In the early 1990's, Michael C. Fina formally
created a Corporate Division. The Corporate Division grew from a need
to satisfy the demands of customers searching for recognition gifts for
their most valuable employees. Although initially centered around the
New York area, today, Michael C. Fina provides recognition gift programs
for industry leading companies around the country.
1998 marked the opening of a new flagship
store on Fifth Avenue. Michael C. Fina Company, yet again showing New
York what a family business could achieve, built a store that showcases
the most complete selection of jewelry, fine dinnerware, housewares, and
giftware in Manhattan. With a full service Bridal and Gift Registry, the
new Fifth Avenue store has become the highlight of shopping in New York.
Today, Michael C. Fina, is still owned and
operated by the Fina Family, and is still dedicated to the providing its
customers with the greatest products, and the best values.
