Akoya:
The first type of cultured pearl, Akoya pearls are cultured in the Akoya oyster. These oysters were the first used by Kokichi Mikimoto while he developed the process of creating cultured pearls.

Found mostly in and around Japan, the pearls from Akoya oysters are considered the classic pearl. Generally white or cream colored, Akoya pearls can sometimes feature hints of rose, silver, and blue.
