While traditional settings are stunning, some people want something just a little more ornate. For these people accent gems are a necessity. There are many different ways to set accent gems, including channel, bezel, burnish, bead, invisible set, and pavé. Each of these settings gives the side gems a slightly different look, allowing more or less light to enter the gem by using more or less metal. No matter what way the accent gems are set they offer a rich accent to the center diamond. Contemporary designers have utilized modern technology to develop unique ways to set the center diamond adding a bold, original look to their rings. One popular modern style is the tension setting. In this setting the center diamond seems to float, with nothing supporting it from underneath. On the sides it is held in place by the band itself, pressing on the diamond to keep it from moving.
